–Crazy good length and volume
–Get a false lash look
–Mini/travel size option
–No flaking or smudging
–Only available at specialty retailers
–Full size dries out quickly
I’ve been a long time fan of this mascara, but I’ve never reviewed it on the blog. This mascara has everything I want–length, volume, separation, and no flaking or smudging. I got the full size in my February Boxycharm, but I prefer and recommend the mini. The full size tends to dry out before I can use it up. If you’ve never tried it, get the mini, and give it a go.
You know, using this pretty tray for this photo seemed like a really good idea at the time. Now it looks like a few tiny products on a big AF tray. I’m too lazy to take another picture so this is what you get. Enjoy.
I always set my makeup with a powder which mattifies whatever foundation I have on. I can’t not set my makeup though. I need it to last and stay in place, but I don’t necessarily want that flat matte look.
Enter this powder. I use it with a fluffy brush to add some radiance back to my skin. It’s the perfect finishing step for your makeup.
I found mine at TJ Maxx for $12.99 so check your store.
I reviewed both of these this month (here and here). I like the Maybelline, but I like it better paired with a more volumizing mascara like the CoverGirl.
The CoverGirl is my new favorite drugstore mascara. I was blown away by this one. It’s so good on its own.
Fun Fact: I collect cups and water bottles like I collect makeup. I just love them and when I see a cute one, I can’t not buy it. I got the pink one at Bed, Bath, & Beyond and the glitter one at TJ Maxx. They’re so cute and I’m obsessed.
Is this not the most gorgeous palette?! It makes my heart happy. I bought the empty palette from Makeup Geek and went through my single shadows to make my perfect, neutral palette. I can get any kind of look that I would want from these shades.
–Shade match for me
–Buildable coverage, medium to full
–Tacky, have to set
–Not good on my dry skin
–Too Faced foundations tend to lean yellow/warm
–Didn’t hold up well on me, started to separate
This did not look good on my dry skin. It was a cakey mess and I know it wasn’t the powder causing the cake because it doesn’t do that will other matte foundations that I use. If you zoom in on the pictures below, you can see how bad it looks on my skin. I can usually make matte foundations work with proper prep, but not with this one. This product is scented and while it didn’t bother me, keep that in mind if you are sensitive to smells. I got a sample at Sephora to test out and I am so glad I didn’t buy the full size. The coverage is medium, but it builds up to full and it covered all my redness. If you have combo to oily skin, I think you’d like this.
I feel like Too Faced hasn’t released a new mascara in a long time. Their Too Faced Better Than Sex is one of my favorites and the #1 selling prestige mascara in America. I was so excited when I saw this was releasing. I love the name and the packaging is so cute. Sephora had a promotion where you could receive a sample with a $25 order so obviously, I had to oblige.
–Extreme volume without heavy feel
–Lift, lengthen, and lock in up to 24 hours of smudge- and flake-resistant curl
–Maximum drama & lift
—Don’t pump the wand in the tube
–$25 at Sephora, toofaced.com
–I can’t link it because it isn’t out yet, it releases 6/5 and I’m pretty sure it’s a Sephora exclusive
–I haven’t seen anything about a mini option, but hopefully they will release one
–Added volume and length
–Paraben and phthalate free
–Brush is HUGE and holds a TON of product which can be messy
–Very wet formula
I said earlier, I was so excited to try this and the fall down was just as hard. The description does say, “creamy-mousse formula,” but I wasn’t sure what to expect from that description. This formula is extremely wet and does not dry down fast enough for me. I was scared to blink because I was scared it was going to get everywhere. I tried letting it dry, but I don’t have 48293 minutes to spend on mascara in the mornings. The wand is HUGE and and holds a lot of product which made such a mess on lashes, eye lids, and it got all over the packaging too. I got good volume and length, but not worth all the trouble. I’ll be sticking with the Better Than Sex, it never lets me down.
My back up box is constantly overflowing for a few reasons. One, I don’t like running of products I love and use regularly. Two, I love to test and try new things. If I see a product I want to try, for instance a micellar water, I’ll buy it and stick it in this box to use once I finish up the one I have open. Here’s a peek into my backup box and to see when I finish this, then I’ll use that.
With all of the end of year posts, I ran out of days to post my monthly manicures and my monthly favorites separately. I like to post monthly things within the month and I didn’t want to spill over into January so a combo post it is.
I’ve worn these nearly every single day since I got them.
These are weightless, soundless, and waterproof. The fact that they don’t make noise is a major thing. I work at a computer all day and I can’t stand hearing my bracelets bang and clang.
I got this set of 3 for $40 from Monkee’s of Virginia Beach. If you’re interested, shoot them a message on Instagram and they will hook you up. The girls are super nice and helpful and they ship for free and it’s fast.
PROS –LOreal :: Lots of volume, affordable, easy to purchase/find, no flaking or smudging, easy to remove, waterproof option –Too Faced :: Lots of volume, get a fake lash look, mini option for testing/travel, waterproof option, doesn’t clump, paraben free, vegan, cruelty free
CONS –LOreal :: Clumpy, lashes felt heavy and crunchy, not cruelty free, formula dries out quickly –Too Faced :: Expensive, full size will dry up before you can use it
FINAL THOUGHTS –LOreal :: I don’t love this, but I don’t hate it either. I can make this work when I pair it with another mascara that can separate and fan my lashes out. I’m going to use it since I bought it, but I definitely won’t repurchase. I see why people like it and I know it works really well for a lot of people, but my lashes are too stubbly and sparse. –Too Faced :: This is my favorite mascara ever and one of the few high end mascaras that I have repurchased. I recommend getting the mini because the full size will start to dry out before you can use it up. There is a reason this is the #1 selling prestige mascara in America.
DUPE OR NOT? I definitely don’t think these are dupes. The packaging and brush are similar, but the formulas and wear are not. The closest drugstore dupe to Better Than Sex is the Revlon Volumazing. I did a full review on that one and you can read it here.
