June Favorites

You know, using this pretty tray for this photo seemed like a really good idea at the time.  Now it looks like a few tiny products on a big AF tray. I’m too lazy to take another picture so this is what you get. Enjoy.

  • Thrive Causemetics Liquid Lash Extensions
    • I did a review on this earlier this week and I love it.
    • I love the tubing formula and I know when I wear this mascara I don’t have to worry about flaking or smudging. It’s humid AF and I sweat and I don’t have time to be chasing my mascara down my face.
  • Becca Skin Love Brighten & Blur Primer
    • I got this as a 100 point perk at Sephora, damn them and their tiny AF samples for $100. I digress.
    • This smells AMAZING and it makes the skin super smooth and blurred. I use it only in the areas where I have larger pores. I would buy the full size of this.
  • Too Faced Peach Blur Finishing Powder
    • I always set my makeup with a powder which mattifies whatever foundation I have on. I can’t not set my makeup though. I need it to last and stay in place, but I don’t necessarily want that flat matte look.
    • Enter this powder. I use it with a fluffy brush to add some radiance back to my skin. It’s the perfect finishing step for your makeup.
    • I found mine at TJ Maxx for $12.99 so check your store.
  • Sonia Kashuk Marble Makeup Blender Sponge
    • I fell in love with this sponge a while ago, but then I became a beautyblender snob and would only use the actual beautyblender.
    • I’m back to this though. I love how huge it gets and how fast it blends out my foundation.
    • You can 2 for $7 and I highly recommend. It’s just as soft as the beautyblender in my humble opinion.
  • Makeup Geek Healing Lip Glaze in Pink Bubbly
    • I’ve been feeling more glossy lips here lately and this is one product I can’t stop reaching for.
    • It looks amazing on its own or paired on top of another lipstick. It adds shine and moisture, but it’s not tacky or sticky.
    • It’s $4.99 so get you one and thank me later.
  • Maybelline Lash Sensational Curvitude+ CoverGirl Exhibitionist
    • I reviewed both of these this month (here and here). I like the Maybelline, but I like it better paired with a more volumizing mascara like the CoverGirl.
    • The CoverGirl is my new favorite drugstore mascara. I was blown away by this one. It’s so good on its own.

Fun Fact: I collect cups and water bottles like I collect makeup. I just love them and when I see a cute one, I can’t not buy it. I got the pink one at Bed, Bath, & Beyond and the glitter one at TJ Maxx. They’re so cute and I’m obsessed.

I also got an upgrade for the Monthly Makeup Basket. The basket was overflowing so I needed something that would hold more, but not take up a ton of space. I found this tray at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. It’s the Caboodles Acrylic Cosmetic Counter Tray. It’s PERFECT. It holds everything.

Is this not the most gorgeous palette?! It makes my heart happy. I bought the empty palette from Makeup Geek and went through my single shadows to make my perfect, neutral palette. I can get any kind of look that I would want from these shades.

Morphe M213 (Inner Corner)
elf 202 Smudge (Buff out lower lash line)
Luxie 141 (Blend/smoke lower lash line)
Wet n Wild Smokey Liner (Blend blue shadow on lower lash line)

Directions :: AM Look

  1. Primer–Apply Essence Eye Base and set with Wet n Wild Brulee
  2. Transition Shade–Blend Necessary into and slightly above the crease using the M441 and windshield wiper motions.
  3. Crease & Outer V–Pack Cheens and blend using the Luxie 121 until you get the intensity you desire.
  4. Blend–Use M441 to blend Necessary and Cheens to make sure there are no harsh lines.
  5. Lid–Apply Just A Kiss with the elf eyeshadow brush. I applied dry first, then I sprayed my brush with MAC Fix+ to intensify the color payoff.
  6. Brow Bone–There is now brow bone shade in this palette so I used Enlight from the Jaclyn Hill Morphe palette with the Merle Norman Eyes #4 brush.
  7. Inner Corner–Colour Pop Jelly Shadow with M213.
  8. Mascara–1) Lash Primer 2) Lancome Monsieur Big 3) Benefit Roller Lash

To take this look to the next level…

  1. Tightline–Milani Pencil
  2. Line Upper Lash Line–Physicians Formula Liquid Liner
  3. Smudge–Apply Milani Pencil on lower lash line and smudge out using the elf 202
  4. Blend–Take Luxie 141 and use Necessary to blend out harshness/diffuse the pencil liner.
  5. Color–Use the Wet n Wild Smokey brush to add A Moment to lower lash line. I packed it on and then blended it and repeated this step till I was satisfied with how the color looked.

–Long-wearing mattes
–Ultra-dazzling shades packed with multi-dimensional reflects

Ulta, doseofcolors.com
(I got mine on sale and it’s going to be half off at Ulta on March 18 during the 21 Days of Beauty)

–Gorgeous packaging
–Cruelty free
–Gluten free
–Paraben free
–Easy to blend
–Little fall out
–Large pan size
–Multi look palette (every day, glam, ultra smokey looks are all achievable with this palette)

–No brow bone shade

Final Thoughts
This was Ulta Diamond Deal and I got it half off, otherwise I wouldn’t have purchased it. I don’t splurge on eye shadow palettes though so take that as you will. The mattes are pigmented and smooth and the metallics are definitely “ultra-dazzling” and even more intense if you wet your brush before applying. I love the formula, packaging, and I’ve LOVED watching and following Desi and Katy for years so this was a total win for me. You can get some every day, neutral looks, but if that’s your preferred look, I don’t know that this palette will be worth it for you. My only complaint is there is now brow bone shade, but I have those in other palettes so it’s not a huge deal. I like it and I’m glad I have it in my collection.

Check back next week for a tutorial!

CoverGirl Peach Punch Collection

CoverGirl recently released 2 lines of scented makeup, peach & chocolate. The chocolate didn’t really interest me, but the peach line definitely did. I really wanted the Too Faced Sweet Peach Palette, but I really didn’t want to pay that much for a palette I knew I wouldn’t reach for very often. Fortunately, CoverGirl stepped in to help a sister out.

The collection consists of an eye shadow palette, face palette, two blushes, and a highlighter. I’ve seen the eye shadow palette at a few other stores, but the highlighter and face palette are both Wal Mart exclusives. I didn’t pick up the individual blushes because the face palette came with blush shades.

The peach scent is definitely there, but it’s not overly powerful and it doesn’t linger.

–Highly pigmented
–Same look as a $50 palette

–$9.96 @ Wal Mart

–Matte and shimmer options
–Easy to blend
–Sleek packaging
–Smells good
–Dermatologist tested

–Shades are a little powdery
–There is fall out
–Not cruelty free
–No brow bone shade

Final Verdict
The peach scent is present, but it’s not overly powerful and it doesn’t linger. I love the mix of matte and shimmers. I don’t have the Too Faced palette to compare it to, but if you never picked that up and still want something similar in your collection, I definitely recommend picking this up.

–$9.98 @ Wal Mart

–Easy to blend
–Smells good
–Cute packaging

–Not cruelty free
–Wal Mart exclusive

Final Verdict
The bronzer is very warm, too warm to contour, but the tone works for my fair skin. The highlight shade is too dark for me to use as a highlighter so I mix it with the blush. I wore this makeup for 12 hours and it lasted pretty well. It had definitely started to fade by the end of the night, but I rarely wear my makeup that long and I was impressed with how well it held up. The bronzer is just ok, but I love mixing the other 2 shades for a pretty, peach glow.

Top shade is the highlighter in separate packaging followed by the bronzer, blush, and highlighter in the face palette.

–$6.94 at Wal Mart

–Smells good
–Cute packaging
–Pretty shade

–Didn’t last long at all

Final Verdict
I HATE this highlighter. It’s basically pressed glitter. I had glitter all over my face. I used a cream base and set it with this and it faded so fast. I tried using MAC Fix+ to reduce the glitter fall out, and it helped, but it also made the shade too dark for my skin tone. This was a major fail.
