Final Thoughts
A friend raved and recommended this to me and now I totally get it. I understand all the hype because this mascara is so good. My lashes looked AMAZING and so long. I got more length than volume, but it did give some volume. I definitely got a false lash look. I don’t like to spend a lot of money on mascara because there are good ones at the drugstore and I can usually get my high end mascaras half off, however, this one is worth the money. It didn’t flake or smudge so this is perfect for this humid summer we’re having in NC. It’s a tubing formula so it was easy to remove. I also love the mission behind the brand and I want to try more products from their line.

–Easy to blend with brush or sponge
–Affordable
–Packaging

Cons
–Online or Ulta stores only
–Shade matching with the descriptions was a little difficult
–Felt a little heavy on the skin, but to a point where I wouldn’t wear it

Final Thoughts
I could not wait to try this foundation. I am all about full coverage so as soon as it was on the Ulta site, I purchased it. I originally purchased 730 Isla, the next to lightest shade because the description sounded like the best match. Wrong. I’m always the lightest shade so I don’t know why I thought this would be different. Of course, I wore it anyway. The first day I wore it mixed with the LA Girl White Mixer. It was a hot mess. The color was off, it was cakey, it broke up, just overall not cute. I went to Ulta and exchanged 730 for 740 and tried again. The second day, I mixed in the elf Hydrating Booster Drops and those few drops made a world of difference. My face looked flawless and filtered. The formula is thick, but it’s easy to blend with a brush or sponge. With my dry skin, I can only wear this if I use the hydrating drops, it does not work for me on its own, and that’s fine. With this foundation, you can tell you’re wearing makeup, but it doesn’t look heavy or sit odd on the skin.

The only other Juvia’s Place product that I’ve tried is this highlighter and I am OBSESSED. It is so pretty and so affordable. I want to try this eye shadow palette and the concealer that was released with this foundation next.

Mascara Monday: Too Faced Damn Girl

IMG_0747

I feel like Too Faced hasn’t released a new mascara in a long time. Their Too Faced Better Than Sex is one of my favorites and the #1 selling prestige mascara in America. I was so excited when I saw this was releasing. I love the name and the packaging is so cute. Sephora had a promotion where you could receive a sample with a $25 order so obviously, I had to oblige.

Claims
–Extreme volume without heavy feel
–Lift, lengthen, and lock in up to 24 hours of smudge- and flake-resistant curl
–Maximum drama & lift
–Creamy-mousse formula
Don’t pump the wand in the tube

Price
–$25 at Sephora, toofaced.com
–I can’t link it because it isn’t out yet, it releases 6/5 and I’m pretty sure it’s a Sephora exclusive
–I haven’t seen anything about a mini option, but hopefully they will release one

Shade Range
–1, black

Pros
–Cruelty free
–Vegan
–Gluten free
–Added volume and length
–Paraben and phthalate free
–Packaging
–Very black

Cons
–Expensive
–Brush is HUGE and holds a TON of product which can be messy
–Very wet formula

Final Thoughts
I said earlier, I was so excited to try this and the fall down was just as hard. The description does say, “creamy-mousse formula,” but I wasn’t sure what to expect from that description. This formula is extremely wet and does not dry down fast enough for me. I was scared to blink because I was scared it was going to get everywhere. I tried letting it dry, but I don’t have 48293 minutes to spend on mascara in the mornings. The wand is HUGE and and holds a lot of product which made such a mess on lashes, eye lids, and it got all over the packaging too. I got good volume and length, but not worth all the trouble. I’ll be sticking with the Better Than Sex, it never lets me down.

Sephora, Ulta, tartecosmetics.com

Shade Range
–30
–My Shade: 8B Porcelain Beige

Pros
–SPF 20
–Hydrating
–Vegan
–No parabens or sulfates
–Shade match for me
–Radiant finish
–No caking or creasing when set with powder
–Longwearing
–Shade range
–Packaging
–Cruelty free
–Good ingredients i.e. hyaluronic acid
–Buildable coverage
–Weightless

Cons
–Expensive

Final Thoughts
I got a sample of this at Sephora, tested it, loved, and bought the full size. It’s a perfect, more lightweight foundation for the warmer months. I love the buildable coverage, but you’re not going to get full coverage with this one. I’ve been looking for a more medium, lightweight formula to wear this summer. Something with just enough coverage to even out my skin tone without being too heavy because it’s just going to melt off. There’s a shade match for me, it works for my dry skin, and it’s packed full of good ingredients. I can’t ask for much more!

Essence Camouflage + Matt Concealer

Claims
–Waterproof
–Matte
–Won’t crease or settle into lines
–Conceal under eye circles and darkness
–Cover up tattoos

Price
–$3.99 at Ulta, essencemakeup.com

Shade Range
–3
–My shade: 10 Light Rose

Pros
–Affordable
–Cruelty free
–Paraben free
–Smells good
–Works with corrector and powder
–Full coverage
–Minimal creasing

Cons
–Availability
–Shade range

Final Thoughts
I love the price and the coverage, but the shade range is total CRAP. The lightest shade is a little too dark for me. I mixed a little Magic Star concealer in to brighten and make it work. It does not cover tattoos so if that’s important to you, keep looking. There’s no shade match for me, but I do like the formula so it’s not a total flop.

Foundation Friday: Flower Beauty Light Illusion

Claims
–Buildable coverage
–Soft luminosity
–Weightless
–Wears endlessly

Price
–$14 at flowerbeauty.com
–$12.98 at Wal Mart
–$13.99 at Ulta

Shade Range
–15
–My shade: L0 Shell

Pros
–SPF
–Long lasting
–Packaging, it’s very heavy & lux feeling and it has a pump
–Cruelty free
–Weightless
–Buildable, medium to full coverage
–Lives up to all of its claims
–Worked with other complexion products
–Luminous, but not overly dewy, finish

Cons
–Shade range
–Not all shades at all retailers

Final Thoughts
I feel like the shades all lean very warm and yellow, but L0 did work for me. The coverage is buildable and builds to full which I prefer. The finish gives a healthy glow which I prefer to a very wet, dewy look. The shade range was recently expanded, but it still needs improving. The first day I tested this, I used a moisturizing, luminous primer and it was a fail. I don’t have oily skin, but I got very oily/dewy and had to use a blotting sheet. Once I used the blotting sheet, everything was fine, but it’s been a LONG time since I’ve had to blot. The second day, I used a more mattifying primer and it held up and looked much better. I do like this, I just had to figure out the best way to use it for my skin.

–My shades: Translucent (under eye) and Rose (all over set)

Pros
–Cruelty free
–Vegan
–Finely milled
–Works on my dry skin
–Doesn’t cake
–Skin looks blurred and flawless
–Packaing

Cons
–Scent
–Online only or Morphe stores
–Contains talc (con for some, doesn’t bother me)

Final Thoughts
I FREAKING love this powder. I didn’t think any powder could live up to my beloved Fenty, but this one definitely does. It lives up to all of its claims and I can’t get over how flawless my skin looked. It worked on my dry skin and didn’t cake up or accentuate dryness. I really don’t like the scent, but it doesn’t linger and the product is so bomb that I can overlook that. I can’t say enough good things about this product. I tried with different foundations and powders and it worked with all of them. I highly recommend it!
