Beauty Bite: Lash Lift & Tint

A few weeks ago I treated myself to a lash lift and tint and my life was changed. I know that’s dramatic, but it’s true. I really didn’t need another expensive thing to add to my plate, but here we are. I had mine done by Kristy in Goldsboro and she is the best. She explained everything as she did and made sure I was comfortable. She also loves dogs and makeup and we are kindred spirits. She also does hair, brows, and lash extensions. If you’re local, you HAVE to go see her.

  • What is it?
    • Short version–a perm for your lashes
  • How long does it last?
    • 6-8 weeks
  • How much does it cost?
    • Varies depending on your area, but I paid $35
  • What’s the process?
    • A silicone “rod” is adhered to your lid, then your lashes are combed up and glued to the rod. Then, the perming liquid is brushed on and you let it set for about 10 minutes. After the liquid has set, a setting solution is applied.
  • It didn’t hurt at all. I could easily have fallen asleep and gotten a nap.
  • I have really short lashes, so I wasn’t sure this was going to work for me, but it dang sure did.
  • My lash technician recommended that I take my contacts out, so I did.
  • You can’t get your lashes wet for 24 hours and I removed my eye makeup before we got started.
  • You can read more about the process HERE

  • What is it?
    • Dying your lashes black, just like you would dye your hair
  • How long does it last?
    • 4-6 weeks
  • How much does it cost?
    • Again, this varies but it’s around $20 in my area
  • What’s the process?
    • I got mine done when I had the lift done. My lashes were already adhered to the silicone rod so the dye was just brushed on them after the lift was finished. A patch, similar to a shadow shield, was placed under my lower lashes and then the dye was brushed on those as well. The dye was on for 10 minutes, wiped off, and then I was done.
  • I had white blonde hair as a kid and even though my hair got darker as I got older, my lashes and brows stayed blonde. If I don’t wear mascara and fill in my brows, you can’t even tell I have lashes or brows. Tinting makes a big difference in my appearance.
  • You can read more about the process HERE

  • I mentioned this before, but I removed my contacts to avoid any irritation or sensitivity. I am blind as a bat and had to see how to drive home so I just put on my glasses when we were done.
  • Neither of the aforementioned services irritated my eyes or the skin around them
  • I LOVE how both of these turned out and I am hooked on these services. I will be back every 6-8 weeks to continue getting them done.
  • I’ve been using a lash growth serum (review here) and that, in combination with the lift, makes my lashes look amazing.
  • You can still use mascara and Y’ALL, my lashes look fake when I have mascara on.
  • How are these two things different from lash extensions?
    • These 2 treatments will not make your lashes longer, fuller, or more voluminous like lash extensions do.
    • Lash extensions require a fill every few weeks
    • Lash extensions are hella expensive upfront and then you have the fills that add up
    • Extensions are more upkeep and maintenance and there are rules for what you can and can’t use as far as certain products
    • Kristy does lash extensions so if you want to try those, go see her!
  • If you have any other questions feel free to leave a question or message me on Instagram!

It’s hard to get good pictures by yourself, but I hope you can get an over all idea.
These are my lashes with mascara. AMAZING.

Small Business Saturday 2019

Y’all know I love to shop at big stores like Ulta, Target, Wal Mart, etc., but I do try to shop small business and shop local as well. Small Business Saturday is tomorrow, November 30 and I wanted to share some of my favorite small businesses.

Some of these businesses have storefronts and others are online or social media only. I will notate such so you will know how to shop!

This or That?

L’Oreal Lumi Shake & Glow Dew Mist

  • ClaimsPrime, set, & refresh your makeup :: hydrating, soothing formula :: brighten & nourish :: natural, healthy glow in a bottle
  • Price–$14.99 at Ulta :: $11.49 at Target :: $14.99 at Walgreens for 3.0 oz (travel size $7.99 at Ulta for 1.0 oz)
  • Pros–Packaging :: good mister :: nice scent :: easily accessible :: sets makeup nicely :: ingredients (Vitamin C & coconut water)
  • Cons–Expensive for drugstore :: not cruelty free
  • Final Thoughts–This is not an overly dewy spray which I prefer but if you looking for extreme dew, this is not for you. It sets makeup well and have a really nice mister, but I didn’t knock my socks off. I purchased the travel size and used it up, but I am glad I didn’t purchase the full size.

I’m sure you can guess, but I prefer the

This tends to go out of stock on Ulta’s website so whenever I’m shopping in store or online and it’s available, I grab one. I know I will use it!

October Favorites

  • Maybelline Fit Me Loose Powder in Fair
    • I had some serious powder woes earlier this month. No powder and foundation combination would work on my skin. Everything looked like a dry, cakey mess. I hadn’t used this powder in a long time so I decided to go back to the basics with this one. It never fails and I plan on keeping it in my collection.
  • CYO Illuminating Mixing Cream
    • Jessica Braun used this in a tutorial and it looked really pretty and I happened to find myself in a Walgreens that carried CYO so I picked it up. OMG where has this been my whole life? It’s the best primer if you have dry skin. You can also mix it in foundation, but I haven’t tried it that way. I ordered 2 backups.
  • Coty Airpsun Powder in Translucent
    • My makeup soul sister swears by this powder and when I was having powder woes, I decided to get it. I don’t know why I ever stopped using this. It’s so good, even on my dry skin and you can’t beat the price!
    • If you’re looking for in stores, it’s always near the nail stuff. I don’t know why.
  • Loopy Case
    • I usually don’t spend more than $10 on phone cases. I like to switch them out often and they are cute ones that are super cheap so why bother? Welllll the Loopy case has changed that.
    • My sister had it and I played with hers and I had to have one. It pained me to spend that much on a phone case, but it is definitely worth every penny. I got an additional “loop” because I needed a little color.
  • Powder Puffs
    • As you read above, I was having a rough time with powder. I had been using a brush or a damp sponge, but I just couldn’t get the finish I wanted without caking. I remembered Tati talking about velour powder puffs so I bought a pack on Amazon and problem solved.
    • I used the pointed tip to set my concealer and then just dab the rest of my face with the bottom.
  • Kopari Coconut Rose Toner
    • First of all, this smells AMAZING. I can’t wait to use this product every day. It feels good on the skin, hydrates, and doesn’t dry out my skin.
  • Air Pods Case (not pictured)
    • I won a pair of Air Pods at a company event and I FREAKING love them. I dont’ know how I ever lived without them. However, the case is really small and easy to lose in my huge purse. Amazon saved the day, as always!

September Favorites

Y’all are getting the lazy version of September Favorites because I was sick all weekend and this is the best I can do. TYSM.

  • Morphe Filter Effect Finishing Powder in #Filter1
    • I got this to use to set my under eye concealer for a more brightening effect and I love it. I want to get another shade to use to set all over.
    • It’s very finely milled and made my under eye area looked blurred and flawless.
  • Lush Cookie Dough Lip Scrub
    • Lush makes my favorite lip scrubs and this flavor/scent/whatever is to die for.
  • Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer in Brightener
    • I use this shade as a color corrector and then go in with concealer.
    • The shade is perfect for my fair skin, it’s cheap, and it works well.
  • Jeffree Star Velour Lip Liner in Redrum
    • I couldn’t resist this packaging and I can always use a red lip liner.
    • It’s very cream and the packaging makes me feel regal.
  • Revlon PhotoReady Pore Reducing Primer
    • Thataylaa RAVES about this and I finally picked it up and man oh man is it good.
    • It blurs better than any other pore filling primer I’ve ever tried. It’s a little pricey for the drugstore, but it’s worth it. A little goes a long way so it will last a while.
  • Elcie Cosmetics The Velvet Sponge
    • I’ve seen Alaha use this multiple times and I love the shape. The tip is perfect for concealer and the bottom blends out foundation fast. It’s very soft and bouncy too.
  • Milani The Violet One Lash Primer
    • My LOreal Lash Primer is hard to beat and I’ve only ever found one other one that I liked so I was skeptical about this. However, I FREAKING love it and it is my new favorite lash primer.
  • Colour Pop BFF Mascara in Brownie Points
    • I was so excited when they released a brown mascara. I prefer brown or black/brown because I’m pale AF.
    • I did a full review here.
  • Me Too Arena Wedges
    • An end of summer find, but these are the shoes I’ve been searching for for work. They’re dressier than a normal sandal, but super comfortable. I love the Me Too brand.
    • I bought nude and black. They velcro and I kinda feel like a kid, but I am too old and blind for buckles and tiny holes.
  • Donna Karan Cashmere Mist Deodorant-Antiperspirant
    • My BFF raves about this, but I just could not bring myself to spend $29 on deodorant. I was in Nordstrom and saw it and I guess I was feeling boujee because it came home with me and now I love it. As if I needed one more expensive habit.
    • It smells SO GOOD and the scent lasts ALL DAY. TMI, but I’m a sweater and was worried about how this would work for me, but it worked really well.
    • Now I’m committed to a $29 deodorant like I’m a damn Kardashian or something.
  • Apple Airpods
    • I’ve been wanting these SO bad and I actually won a pair. Even better!
    • They are worth the hype and the price. I love them.
  • Phillip Lim 3.1 for Target Large Tote
    • I missed this collab the first time around and was not going to miss it when it came back.
    • I love this color, style, and size. It’s perfect for fall.
  • LOreal Magic Root Cover Up
    • I reallllllyy need to get my roots done because the white hairs are out of control, but until I can make time to do that, this is my friend.
    • It is magic in a can FOR REAL.
  • Crayola Gel Pens
    • Crayola can do no wrong in my book and I love PENS. I’m all about new pens, markers, school supplies, etc. When I saw they had pens, I immediately ordered.
    • I love all the colors, they write really well, and they’re cheap.

I wanted something new to go over my desk because the big calendar I had there just wasn’t working. It was hard to write on and get to and it just needed to go. I found these open, gold and white shelves at TJ Maxx for $20 and knew they would be perfect. I love how it turned out and that I can display some of my pretty makeup and collectibles. I got a smaller calendar to go on the opposite wall to keep up with my posts and what not. I love this little corner and it brings me joy.

I went to a Morphe store for the first time and I’m pretty sure this is what heaven looks like. It was everything I wanted it to be and more. I could live there and if I lived closer, I would so work there. It’s a dream!

The last favorite of the month is a lifetime favorite. I got the chance to see Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg speak thanks to my alma mater, Meredith College. I can’t put into words how awesome this experience was. The Notorious RBG is quite the force to be reckoned with and an inspiring woman. The moderator spoke of the impact her mother had on her life and asked her what some advice or wisdom her mother gave her that stuck with her and her response has stuck with me. Her mother’s advice was to, “Be independent and be a lady.” Those are two thing that my own mother has instilled in my and two characteristics I am proud to have. Several years ago, after meeting me, my friend’s boyfriend said I was a lady and it’s one of the best compliments I’ve ever received. I am a lady who cusses like a sailor, a little bit ironic, but I make it work on the daily.

August Favorites

August was a slow month for manicures (yesterday’s post) and favorites so I don’t have much to share. However, I REALLY love these few things and I’ve been using the crap out of them all month long.

  • Secret Treasures PJs from Wal Mart
    • There are few things in life that bring me as much joy as pajamas, especially soft and cheap pjs. These from Wal Mart fit the bill. The set was around $12 and sadly I can’t find them online. All I know is the brand is Secret Treasures.
    • I got the short sleeve, v-neck shirt in a larger size and the ankle length pants in my usual size. I like to my pjs to be loose and flowy. The material is so lightweight and soft which is perfect for me because I’m hot natured AF.
    • Another good thing about this brand is you could mix and match. You get ankle length pants, long pants, shorts, bermuda shorts, a short sleeve top, a tank top, etc. Each piece was sold separately so you could mix and match. GENIUS.
  • Colour Pop Just A Tint Lip Tint in Chimichanga
    • I’ve been looking for a sheer red lip for what seems like ages. I love a bold, red lip, but sometimes I want the red look without having to worry about lip liner and reapplying.
    • These provides just enough color, is hydrating, and comfortable.
    • If you want a red lip, but aren’t ready to jump in with both feet, give this one a go!
  • CoverGirl TruBlend Undercover Concealer
    • I did a full review on this here so I won’t go into detail, but it’s good.
    • It’s full coverage, has a good shade range, and won’t break the bank.
  • elf Total Face Sponge
    • A few of the YouTubers I watch have been raving about this sponge so I picked it up to give it a try. I don’t know what it is that makes it so good or extra special, there are definitely comparable sponges at the drugstore already, but I haven’t stopped using this.
    • I usually do my foundation with a brush, but I’ve hardly touched my foundation brush this month. I’ve been using this for foundation, concealer, and powder.
    • If you want a cheaper alternative to the beautyblender, I highly recommend this one.

I can’t quit with this lip combo. I usually don’t even like nude lips, but since I discovered this combo, I can’t stop wearing it. I use the Jordana Lip Liner in Tawny, then Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk lipstick, and top it off with Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb in Fenty Glow. The lipstick and gloss are great on their own, but wearing them together is just pure perfection. The sunnies are Karen Walker Super Lunar sunnies in Crazy Tort & Gold if you care.

Makeup Melters

I’m a big fan of double cleansing. I HAVE to double cleanse every day and the first step is removing my makeup. I love trying new products and formulas. There are so many options: micellar water, cleansing balm, cleansing oil, cleansing lotion, gel cleansers, wipes, etc.

Keep reading for the details on some new (to me) makeup removers that I’ve been testing.

Claims–Draw out & wash away makeup, oil, and other skin-dulling impurities :: leave skin hydrated, soft, and dewy

Pros–Affordable :: easily accessible :: packaging–pump! :: hypoallergenic :: paraben-free :: phthalate free :: non-comedogenic :: smells amazing :: removes all traces of makeup :: hydrating

Cons–Not cruelty free

Final Thoughts–I love the MaxGlow line and this product was a hit too. It’s gentle yet effective and removes all makeup. The MaxGlow line smells so good and I need them to add a body wash and lotion to this line. It leaves skin soft and hydrated.

Claims–Gentle, yet effective :: melt away even the most stubborn makeup :: leaves skin hydrated, conditioned, and smoothed :: safe to use around the eyes :: won’t leave skin tight, dry, or greasy

Price–$26 at Sephora :: $20 at :: for 5.4 oz

Pros–Clean beauty product :: packaging, pump! :: doesn’t feel greasy or leave on a film behind :: no alcohol, parabens, mineral oil, phthalates, or sulfates :: allergy-tested :: gluten free :: vegan :: cruelty free :: ophthalmologist tested :: hydrated :: removes all makeup

Cons–Expensive :: availability

Final Thoughts–I found this at TJ Maxx for $9.99. I love the Hello FAB line and I loved this too. I wouldn’t pay for $20+ for it though. It’s hydrating and has a pump that locks so it’s travel friendly. It removes all traces of makeup and is very gentle.

Claims–3-in-1 cleanser, makeup remover, and anti-aging serum :: completely remove all traces of eye makeup & impurities without drying or irritation :: perfect for all skin types, even the most sensitive

Price–$38 at Sephora, for 2.82 oz :: $15 travel size 0.99 oz

Pros–Cruelty free :: removes ALL makeup, even waterproof with ease :: hydrating :: good ingredients–hyaluronic acid, peptides, ceramides, and antioxidants :: hydrating :: doesn’t leave a greasy film after rinsing :: no parabens, sulfates, phthalates :: leaves skin soft and smooth :: anti-aging properties :: mini size for travel/testing :: sleek packaging

Cons–Expensive :: Sephora or online only :: some view jars like this unsanitary :: bulky packaging for storing

Final Thoughts–I love It Cosmetics skincare products and this was no exception. A little goes a long way and it is super hydrating. It says it’s a 3-in-1 cleanser, but I still follow up with a cleanser and serum separately. It’s expensive, but all of the anti-aging properties and ingredients attribute to that. I like this, but I won’t pay $38 for the full size when there are other, cheaper products that do the same things.

Claims–Ultra gentle :: melts away makeup :: deeply cleans away impurities :: leaves the skin supple and hydrated

Price–$7.79 at Target :: $13.49 at & Walgreens :: 1.4 oz

Pros–Comes with a scoop so you don’t have to dip your fingers in it :: vegan :: cruelty free :: non-comedogenic :: gluten free :: paraben free :: dermatologist & ophthalmologist tested :: safe for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers :: hypoallergenic :: small, compact packaging :: removes all makeup

Cons–Expensive for a small amount of product

Final Thoughts–This has a slight scent, but it’s not overpowering and it doesn’t linger. I like that there is a scoop included and that the packaging is small and compact. It removed all my makeup and is a good product. However, I won’t repurchase it because you get little product for such higher price tag.

Claims–Leaves skin instantly soft & radiant :: easy rinse :: non-greasy :: solid balm transforms into a silky oil, melting away stubborn makeup and removing impurities

Price–$9.99 at Target & Walgreens :: $9.98 at Wal Mart :: 3.38 oz

Pros–Affordable :: easily accessible :: cute packaging design :: won Best of Beauty prize for Allure in 2018 :: little goes a long way :: moisturizing/hydrating :: little goes a long way :: removes ALL makeup with ease, even waterproof mascara :: no harsh rubbing required :: doesn’t leave greasy residue/film behind

Cons–Not cruelty free :: some view jars like this as unsanitary, but you can use a scoop to prevent dipping dirty fingers back in the jar :: bulky packaging for traveling/storing

Final Thoughts–I LOVE this and it is a total dupe for the Clinique Take The Day Off Balm and is a third of the price. It’s affordable, hydrating, and easy to access.  A little goes a long way and you get a lot of product. It removes ALL makeup so easily. There is a slight scent, but it’s not overpowering and doesn’t linger.
