Mascara Recap 2018

If you’ve been following along for a little while, you know that Mascara Monday is a regular thing around here. I reviewed 18 mascaras last year, wow!

You can always see if I’ve reviewed a mascara by typing it in the search bar, but like the foundation post I did, I wanted one, concise place to have as a reference point. Also, I’m going to save them as a highlight on my Instagram, so you can check it out there as well.

Mascara Monday: NYX Worth The Hype

Claims
–Build up fuller, longer-looking lashes with ease

Price
–$7.99 at Ulta
–$4.79 at Target
–$7.99 at Walgreens
–$8 at nyxcosmetics.com

Shade Range
–4
–Waterproof option.

Pros
–Affordable
–Easily accessible
–Waterproof option
–Length
–Separation
–No flaking or smudging
–Shade options
–Cruelty free
–Wand size and shape

Cons
–Not much volume/fullness

Final Thoughts
–This mascara gives a more natural look. I like it for every day wear, but if you’re looking for a false lash look, this isn’t the product for you. It has a natural bristle wand and I really like the shape and the bristles. I will use this, but I wouldn’t repurchase. It’s not wowing, but it’s note bad either. Just meh!

Mascara Monday: Maybelline Volum’ Express The Colossal Big Shot Tinted Primer

I mean, is the name of the product long enough?

.

Claims
–Brush catches all lashes
–Quick-drying & buildable
–Leaves lashes feeling soft & supples
–Preps eyelashes for mascara

Price
–$7.99 @ Ulta
–$5.39 @ Target
–$8.49 @ Walgreens
–$6.94 @ Wal Mart

Shade Range
–1: Black

Pros
–Affordable
–Easily accessible
–Only tinted primer at the drugstore (that I know of)
–Ophthalmologist tested
–Made a difference in length and volume of my lashes

Cons
–Not cruelty free

Final Thoughts
I could definitely tell a difference in my lashes with and without this primer. It’s also great to have for light makeup days, you can use it alone and not worry with primer and mascara. I still think the LOreal Voluinous is the best mascara primer, but this one is good and I will definitely reach for it and use it.

Mascara Monday: Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes

I got a special edition packaging when I purchased.

Claims
–Curls and separates every lash
–Naturally defined and voluminous look
–No clumping or flaking

Price
–$23 for full size
–$12 mini
Ulta, Sephora, tartecosmetics.com

Shade Selection
–1
Waterproof option available

Pros
–Cruelty free
–Vegan
–No parabens, mineral oil, pthalates, triclosan, or gluten
–Separates
–No flaking or smugding
–Wand size works for top and bottom lashes

Cons
–Expensive
—Not much volume

Final Thoughts
Note, this is a natural bristle wand so if that’s not your thing, this isn’t for you.
I like this mascara, but it gives a very natural look. If you want the false lash look, you’re not going to get it with this. I like to wear this on lighter makeup days. It doesn’t give crazy volume or length, but does a great job at separating. This is usually included in the Ulta 21 Days of Beauty sale so I always wait then and get it half off. I don’t know if I love it enough to purchase at the full price, but for half off, I’ll take it. I like to pair it with a more voluminous mascara like the Lancome Monsieur Big or Maybelline Total Temptation.

Mascara Monday: Jesses Girl Dial-A-Lash

IMG_2162

IMG_1642.JPG

Claims
–Adjustable wand allows you to increase length, volume, and curl
–Natural to maximum volume

Price
–$7.99 @ jessesgirlcosmetics.com
–$14.99 @ Amazon

Shade Range
–2: Black and Brown

Pros
–Affordable
–4 mascaras in one
–Cruelty free
–No flaking
–No smudging

Cons
–Hard to find
–No waterproof option

Settings
#1: Natural–good separation and length
#2: Enhance–more volume, good separation and length
#3: Boost–clumpy, lease fav setting
#4: Max Volume–Most dramatic; wand took some getting used to; long, thick, & full lashes

Final Thoughts
I’m not sure where to find Jesses Girl products now that Rite Aids are closing. Obviously, it’s available online, but I don’t know what other stores carry that line. The Rite Aid near me closed so I grabbed this 70% off. I definitely thought this was a gimmicky product, but it really works! I love that it’s a 4-in-1 product for such an affordable price. I tried all 4 settings and had no flaking or smudging on any setting. This isn’t waterproof and there isn’t a waterproof option, but I laughed till I cried while wearing this and it didn’t budge.

I used my Lancome Lash Curler and the LOreal Mascara Primer each day that I tested.

Mascara Monday: Maybelline Total Temptation

Claims
–Soft, separated, and fluffy lashes
–Bold, full volume
–Lengthened lashes

Price
–$9.49 @ Ulta
–$7.89 @ Target
–$7.94 @ Wal Mart
–$9.49 @ Walgreens

Shade Range
–3 and a waterproof option

Pros
–Easily accessible
–Affordable
–Sleek packaging
–Lives up it’s claims
–Lots of volume
–No clumping
–No flaking

Cons
–Not cruelty free
–Packing gets dirty easily

Final Verdict
Note, this has a natural bristle brush so if you prefer plastic bristles, this definitely is not for you. I used with my LOreal Mascara Primer like I usually do. This mascara made my lashes look BOMB. I got length, separation, and volume with no clumping or flaking. Not much more you can ask from a mascara!

Mascara Monday: LOreal Lash Paradise Primer

Claims
–Thickens lashes
–Helps enhance mascara wear

Price
–$9.99 @ Ulta
–$8.99 @ Target
–$9.99 @ Walgreens

Shade Range
–1, Millennial Pink

Pros
–Suitable for sensitive eyes and contact wearers
–Affordable
–Pretty packaging

Cons
–Not cruelty free

Final Verdict
I initially used this with the LOreal Lash Paradise mascara and didn’t notice much difference. The shade is “Millennial Pink,” but it just looked like any other white mascara primer. I don’t love this as much the LOreal Voluminous Mascara Primer. I think this works better with mascaras other than the Lash Paradise. Do I like it? Yes. Would I repurchase it? No. The white primer is much better!
