September Favorites

Y’all are getting the lazy version of September Favorites because I was sick all weekend and this is the best I can do. TYSM.

Untitled

  • Morphe Filter Effect Finishing Powder in #Filter1
    • I got this to use to set my under eye concealer for a more brightening effect and I love it. I want to get another shade to use to set all over.
    • It’s very finely milled and made my under eye area looked blurred and flawless.
  • Lush Cookie Dough Lip Scrub
    • Lush makes my favorite lip scrubs and this flavor/scent/whatever is to die for.
  • Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer in Brightener
    • I use this shade as a color corrector and then go in with concealer.
    • The shade is perfect for my fair skin, it’s cheap, and it works well.
  • Jeffree Star Velour Lip Liner in Redrum
    • I couldn’t resist this packaging and I can always use a red lip liner.
    • It’s very cream and the packaging makes me feel regal.
  • Revlon PhotoReady Pore Reducing Primer
    • Thataylaa RAVES about this and I finally picked it up and man oh man is it good.
    • It blurs better than any other pore filling primer I’ve ever tried. It’s a little pricey for the drugstore, but it’s worth it. A little goes a long way so it will last a while.
  • Elcie Cosmetics The Velvet Sponge
    • I’ve seen Alaha use this multiple times and I love the shape. The tip is perfect for concealer and the bottom blends out foundation fast. It’s very soft and bouncy too.
  • Milani The Violet One Lash Primer
    • My LOreal Lash Primer is hard to beat and I’ve only ever found one other one that I liked so I was skeptical about this. However, I FREAKING love it and it is my new favorite lash primer.
  • Colour Pop BFF Mascara in Brownie Points
    • I was so excited when they released a brown mascara. I prefer brown or black/brown because I’m pale AF.
    • I did a full review here.
  • Me Too Arena Wedges
    • An end of summer find, but these are the shoes I’ve been searching for for work. They’re dressier than a normal sandal, but super comfortable. I love the Me Too brand.
    • I bought nude and black. They velcro and I kinda feel like a kid, but I am too old and blind for buckles and tiny holes.
  • Donna Karan Cashmere Mist Deodorant-Antiperspirant
    • My BFF raves about this, but I just could not bring myself to spend $29 on deodorant. I was in Nordstrom and saw it and I guess I was feeling boujee because it came home with me and now I love it. As if I needed one more expensive habit.
    • It smells SO GOOD and the scent lasts ALL DAY. TMI, but I’m a sweater and was worried about how this would work for me, but it worked really well.
    • Now I’m committed to a $29 deodorant like I’m a damn Kardashian or something.
  • Apple Airpods
    • I’ve been wanting these SO bad and I actually won a pair. Even better!
    • They are worth the hype and the price. I love them.
  • Phillip Lim 3.1 for Target Large Tote
    • I missed this collab the first time around and was not going to miss it when it came back.
    • I love this color, style, and size. It’s perfect for fall.
  • LOreal Magic Root Cover Up
    • I reallllllyy need to get my roots done because the white hairs are out of control, but until I can make time to do that, this is my friend.
    • It is magic in a can FOR REAL.
  • Crayola Gel Pens
    • Crayola can do no wrong in my book and I love PENS. I’m all about new pens, markers, school supplies, etc. When I saw they had pens, I immediately ordered.
    • I love all the colors, they write really well, and they’re cheap.

I wanted something new to go over my desk because the big calendar I had there just wasn’t working. It was hard to write on and get to and it just needed to go. I found these open, gold and white shelves at TJ Maxx for $20 and knew they would be perfect. I love how it turned out and that I can display some of my pretty makeup and collectibles. I got a smaller calendar to go on the opposite wall to keep up with my posts and what not. I love this little corner and it brings me joy.

I went to a Morphe store for the first time and I’m pretty sure this is what heaven looks like. It was everything I wanted it to be and more. I could live there and if I lived closer, I would so work there. It’s a dream!

The last favorite of the month is a lifetime favorite. I got the chance to see Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg speak thanks to my alma mater, Meredith College. I can’t put into words how awesome this experience was. The Notorious RBG is quite the force to be reckoned with and an inspiring woman. The moderator spoke of the impact her mother had on her life and asked her what some advice or wisdom her mother gave her that stuck with her and her response has stuck with me. Her mother’s advice was to, “Be independent and be a lady.” Those are two thing that my own mother has instilled in my and two characteristics I am proud to have. Several years ago, after meeting me, my friend’s boyfriend said I was a lady and it’s one of the best compliments I’ve ever received. I am a lady who cusses like a sailor, a little bit ironic, but I make it work on the daily.

Final Thoughts
I got a sample at Sephora to try before deciding whether or not to purchase. I was really worried about how this would look since it said it had a matte finish, but I was surprised at how it looked it on my skin. It didn’t cake or cling at all. It was very easy to blend and build up the coverage. I tried it with the Catrice powder first and it broke up so the next day I tried it with the Revolution PRO powder and it look so much better. I really loved that combination and how it sat on my skin. The shade range is impressive and there’s a perfect shade match for me. I have plenty of foundations so I’m not buying the full size right now, but I definitely would purchase this one.

Final Thoughts
I’ve been wanting to try this concealer forever, but they didn’t a mini size that matched me and I didn’t want to jump right in and get the full size. NARS recently expanded their shade range and you can now get all the shades in the mini. YAY NARS!! The mini size is perfect for travel/testing and it takes forever to go through an entire concealer. Chantilly matches, but I usually go a shade lighter because I prefer a brighter under eye so I mixed in a little Jeffree Star Concealer in C1. I get why this is such a raved about product. My under eye area looked blurred, flawless, and smooth. I do have to add in a lighter concealer to get the desired effect, but I don’t mind doing that.

Final Thoughts
This was just MEH. I don’t have any complains, but it didn’t wow me and for $26, I want to be wowed. It lengthened, volumized, and separated, but didn’t add much drama. I can get better looking lashes with cheaper mascaras.

–Couldn’t find a primer/powder combo that worked on my dry skin. Looked dry, cakey, and clingy

Final Thoughts
I usually test foundation using a primer and powder that I love and that I know works with my other foundations. I can also tell pretty quickly if I like or don’t like a foundation. I tried several different combinations over a few days trying to get this one to work because I was so excited about this release. I love the original formula and knew this one would work even better for my dry skin. At the bottom of this post, I’ve included the different combinations I tried and some notes. I love the packaging update with the addition of the pump. F0.5 is my perfect shade in MUR products, but Ulta didn’t have it available in this product so I went with F0.2 which is the next closest thing. It definitely worked, but definitely leans a little more yellow. I’m super bummed this didn’t work for me, but I’ll be sticking with the original formula.

DAY 1

Powder: Catrice Prime & Fine Waterproof Mattifying Powder with Equate Brush
–Skin looked cakey and dry, Nose was a hot mess. Overall, it just looked awful and I could not get home to remove it fast enough.

DAY 2
Primers: First Aid Beauty Coconut Smoothie, Urban Decay b6 Spray, Revlon Pore Reducing
Tool: Elcie Sponge
Powder: Revolution PRO Hydra Matte with Equate Brush
–I tried the Paint Pot trick (Nikkia Joy) on my nose and upper lip, hooping it would help the foundation stick and not break up. NOPE. Overall, it was improvement from Day 1, but still not good. Nose, chin, & upper lip were all a clingy cakey mess.

DAY 3
Primers: Urban Decay b6
Tool: Elcie Sponge
Powder: Maybelline Fit Me Loose Powder in Fair with damp Wet n Wild Sponge
–I still didn’t love how it looked, but it was the best combo thus far. My nose still looked rough and it wore off on my chin. It was the first day that upper lip didn’t look like a cakey clingy mess.

DAY 4
–I mixed the Conceal & Hydrate with the Conceal & Define
Primers: irst Aid Beauty Coconut Smoothie, Urban Decay b6 Spray, Revlon Pore Reducing
Tool: Elcie Sponge
Powder: Catrice Prime & Fine Waterproof Mattifying Powder with Equate Brush
–Looked dry, cakey, and clingy around my nose. Upper lip looked better, but not the best. Best combo of them all, but still not good.

After this, I just gave up and label it a no.

Final Thoughts
I loved the foundation and was hoping the concealer would be just as good and it is! The shade range is impressive and there is a shade light enough for me as a skin tone match and to use as a brightening shade. I prefer a brighter under eye so I went with J24. If I wanted to use this for spot concealing, I would go up a shade. Like the foundation, it gives a blurred, smoothed finished. It was very easy to blend and sets so nicely with powder. You can’t beat the coverage or the price. This is definitely worth checking out and a product I am glad to have in my collection.
