July Favorites

IMG_2302

  • Hidden Joy in a Dark Corner by Wendy Blight book and study with Proverbs 31 OBS
    • Y’all, I can’t say enough good things about it. I highly recommend that everyone reads this. I promise it will strengthen your faith!
    • I go more in depth about this in my July Favorites video that will be up on my YouTube channel on Thursday.
  • Planner Organizer
    • My friend, Melissa, had this at one of our Bible Study discussions and I had to have it. I love the storage options it provides and I can keep all of my planner stuff in one place. It’s from Hobby Lobby and currently on sale!
  • Kindle
    • I had been reading my ebooks on my iPad which I like, but I didn’t like that I couldn’t read outside. Windsor loves to be outside so I’ll go sit on the deck or the balcony and read while he runs around and gets some fresh air and that just wasn’t possible with my iPad.
    • This Kindle has a back light so you can read whenever, wherever.
    • I used some credit card points so I got mine for super cheap, but it’s a really fair price in my opinion.
    • You can get my case here. I added the lipstick sticker. Obvi.
  • Maybelline Brow Precise Micro Pencil in Soft Brown
    • I had gotten away from using such skinny pencils because it can take a while to fill in my thick brows with just a tiny pencil. However, I wasn’t loving how my brows were looking with my current pencil and this was one of the few options my Dollar General had so I grabbed it.
    • I ended up LOVING it. It’s creamy and easy to apply and the shade is perfect for me. I will definitely repurchase this pencil.
  • MAC Paint Pot in Painterly
    • Most people use this as an eye shadow base and it is a good one, but that’s not why it’s a favorite for me.
    • I can’t get foundation to stay on my chin or my chin for the life of me. Enter Nikkia Joy and this paint pot. Problem solved.
    • I apply this after primer, don’t apply foundation to my chin & nose, and apply concealer instead. I then bake that area and my makeup actually stays all day.
  • Clean & Clear Lemon Zesty Scrub
    • I bought the trial size of this to take on a trip and ended up loving it and I’ve since bought the full size.
    • It smells amazing and the scrub is very fine so it’s gentle enough to use daily, but effective at the same time.
  • Juvia’s Place The Tribe Volume III Highlighter
    • Y’ALL this might be the best highlighter and the end all be all of highlighters for me. I can’t stop wearing it.
    • It’s gorgeous, affordable, and did I mention gorgeous? AND IT’S ONLY $12
    • If you have fair skin, you need to try this!
  • Laura Geller Balance-N-Glow Illuminating Foundation in Porcelain
    • I set my makeup with a matte powder to lock everything in place and I prefer a matte look to a dewy look even though my skin is dry.
    • I don’t however, like a flat matte look. I like a little dimension and radiance/sheen.
    • I got this at TJ Maxx and I use it as the last step in my routine before setting spray to add some radiance and glow to my look.

I got this coat rack for my birthday and I have it holding (almost) all of my bags. I love it! It was affordable, easy to assemble, and does the job. I had my bags in box under my bed, but it was such a chore to lug the box out when I wanted to change bags. Problem solved!

Again, be sure to check out my YouTube channel and let me know what you’ve been loving this month in the comments!

This one is just ok. I need to pair it with a more volumizing mascara (like the Lancome Monsieur Big or Too Faced Better Than Sex) to get it to my liking. I would definitely not buy the full size.

Final Thoughts
I FREAKING love this foundation and I can’t believe it’s only $10. It reminds me of the NARS Radiant Longwear Foundation, just a hell of a lot cheaper. I got full coverage with 2 layers and all my redness was covered. It worked great with a brush and sponge which is important to me because I go back and forth with which tool I prefer. The shade and undertone match me perfectly which is RARE. It’s cheap and good and I can’t say enough good things.

Dupe or Duped? Liquid Liner Edition

IMG_8176

Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Liner
vs.
Physicians Formula Eye Booster 2-in-1 Lash Boostering Eyeliner + Serum

STILA STAY ALL DAY WATERPROOF LINER

Claims–Waterproof :: glides smoothing, no skipping :: lasts all day :: dries quickly :: no smudging or running

Price–$22 at Ulta, Sephora, Nordstrom, stilacosmetics.com

Shade Range–10

ProsFine tip :: glides on easily :: cruelty free :: dries quickly :: pigmented :: long lasting :: doesn’t smudge or transfer onto lid :: shade range

ConsExpensive :: can dry up quickly if not stored upright

Final Thoughts–I’m very picky with liquid liners. They have to be easy to use, not bleed, and not transfer. This checks all of those boxes and is perfect for summer when it’s so hot and humid. You don’t have to worry about this one running or budging. Expensive, but good. Ulta usually has this half during their 21 Days of Beauty and that’s when I’ve bought it.

PHYSICIANS FORMULA EYE BOOSTER 2-IN-1 LASH BOOSTING EYELINER + SERUM

Claims–Longwearing :: water resistant :: smudge resistant :: enhances appearance of lashes

Price–$11.49 at Ulta :: $10.95 at Walgreens :: $8.74 at Wal Mart :: $6.59 at Target ;; $11.49 at physicansformula.com

Shade Range–3

Pros–Affordable :: easily accessible :: fine tip :: cruelty free :: pigmented :: stays in place :: doesn’t transfer or smudge

Cons–Pricier drugstore option :: shade range

Final Thoughts–I LOVE this liquid liner and it the one I will continue to use and repurchase. It’s really easy to use and glides on like a dream. I love that there’s a brown option. Most drugstore liners only come in black and that’s just too harsh for my fair skin. It is pricier for a drugstore product, but depending on where you buy, you can get it for a decent price.

Mascara Monday: Maybelline Lash Sensational

Claims
–10 layers of bristles for a full flourish of lashes
–Captures lashes from root to tip for full-fan effect

Price
–$8.99 at Ulta
–$8.99 at Walgreens
–$6.99 at Target
–$6.94 at Wal Mart

Shade Range
–3
–Waterproof option

Pros
–Affordable
–Easily accessible
–Waterproof option
–Length
–Can feel the bristles grabbing and coating each lash
–Love the wand shape and application
–No flaking or smudging
–Ophthalmologist tested
–Love the fanned out effect
–Separation

Cons
–Not cruelty free
–Minimal volume

Final Thoughts
I tried this years ago and liked it, but I had forgotten just how good it is. This is one of the best options at the drugstore. The formula is perfect, it’s not too wet or too dry. There’s no flaking or smudging which is a major plus. The length and separation is really good, but I don’t think you get tons of volume with this one, but I don’t mind that.

Foundation Friday: Clinique Even Better Makeup SPF 15

Claims
–Evens skintone
–Sweat, humidity, and water resistant
–Hydrates and smoothes
–Creamy formula
–Natural finish
–Moderate coverage

Price
–$29 at Ulta, Sephora, Nordstrom, clinique.com
–1.0 oz

Shade Range
–56
–My shade: CN 0.5 Shell

Pros
–SPF
–Buildable coverage
–Non-acnegenic
–Shade range
–Worked with other complexion products
–Packaging
–Long lasting
–Allergy tested
–Fragrance free
–Ophthalmologist tested
–Shade match for me
–Worked on my dry skin
–Didn’t cake when set with powder
–Lightweight on the skin

Cons
–Not cruelty free
–Expensive

Final Thoughts
I got this free from Ulta, it was a Platinum Perk, so I had nothing to lose in testing this one. There’s a shade match for me and it has built in SPF. The coverage is buildable and I was able to build it to high medium coverage, but you’re not going to get full coverage from this one. Clinique products are gentle and great for sensitive skin. I don’t think this would work for oily skin. I liked it, but it’s not my ultimate favorite. I’m a full coverage gal, but if you like medium coverage, I think you’d like this.

Primers: elf Blur Stick, Ulta Youthful Glow Primer Serum
Powder: Jeffree Star Rose
