April Favorites

Long time, no see! April was a crazy month and May is set to be just as busy. Poor planning led to very few posts this month. I was out of town and I moved, but I’m settled now and excited to get back to blogging.

My manis were sparse so no April Manis this month, but I did have some favorites that I wanted to share. IMG_9778

Betsey Johnson Lipstick Wallet
–I found this at TJ Maxx for $15 and I had to have it. I mean, how freaking cute?!

Jouer Essential High Coverage Creme Foundation
–I don’t love this as foundation, but I love using it for spot concealing because it is such full coverage. Full review coming soon!

Gold Bracelet
–One of my MC sisters posted that YoungLife was selling these bracelets to help kids go to camp. The bracelets has “God with us” embossed/stamped/written/whatever on it. I love the message and the subtle reminder that He is always with me.

It Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Pressed Powder
–I picked this up during the Ulta 21 Days of Beauty and I love it. My skin is really dry so it’s hard to find a setting powder that doesn’t make my skin look AWFUL. I use this with a domed powder brush in a pressing motion to lightly set my foundation.

Kylie Comestics Velvet Liquid Lipstick in Posie K
–There’s nothing about this lipstick that I don’t love. The formula is amazing as is the shade.
–I did a full review here.
–There are so many fake Kylie lip products out there so to ensure you get the real deal, be sure to buy from her site. You never know what ingredients are in these counterfeit products so be careful!

Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara
–I’ve had this in my drawer for a while and I totally forgot how good it was. I’ve been reaching for it so much this month.

I went to Asheville this month for my cousin’s bachelorette and my sis & I did a little exploring in the vintage shops downtown. She saw this bag and I immediately thought of my idol, Sophia Petrillo from The Golden Girls and I had to get it. It’s so cute and I can’t wait to use it all summer.

Thanks for sticking around and I hope you’ll come back because I’m getting back to my 3 posts a week in May!

Kylie Cosmetics Lip Products Review

I am the last person to hop on the Kylie Cosmetics train. I like for the hype to die down before I try something out. I was browsing the site, contemplating a concealer purchase, when I came across this trio. I’ve been wanting to try her lip products and this was the perfect way to get more bang for my buck AND I had $10 off coupon.

I have nothing against the Kardashian/Jenner clan, this is a just a review on the cosmetics.

The shade I got is Posie K.

Matte Singles
–$17 for 0.11 fl oz
Kit that comes with liner is $29
–16 shades
Pros: Cruelty free, dries down quickly
Cons: Online only, out of stocks, gets dry after about 5 hours
Final Verdict: Not the worst or the driest matte liquid lipstick I’ve tried; I will continue to use it, but I won’t buy any other shades; gloss or lip balm make it better

Velvet Singles
–$16 for 0.11 fl oz
–16 shades
Kit that comes with liner is $27
Pros: Cruelty free, SUPER comfortable, non drying, lasts a long time
Cons: Online only, out of stocks
Final Verdict: LOVE this formula, like even better than the Colour Pop Ultra Satins, would definitely buy more shades

–$15 for 0.09 fl oz
–No kit option available
–15 shades
Pros: Cruelty free, not sticky, pigmented
Cons: Online only, out of stocks
Final Verdict: I don’t love glosses, but this one wasn’t bad. It was very pigmented and not overly sticky. I probably won’t buy any other shades though.

Overall thoughts
–I like that the brand is cruelty free.
–The shade range is great and there’s something for everyone, even some wild, out of the box shades.
–The matte liquid lipsticks are drying, no way around it.
–The velvet formula blew my mind. I want more shades!
–I know the hype comes from her name and not necessarily the products.
–Minus the crazy expensive brushes, I think her prices are fair and in line with similar products.
–I want to try the concealers and bullet lipsticks next

Ulta 21 Days of Beauty Haul & Review

I’m so sad that 21 Days of Beauty is over, but I’m already looking forward to the fall sale.

I LOVE this event because it gives me a chance to stock up on some must haves and try some more expensive products at a cheaper price.

I think I practiced some serious self-control and only purchased 5 things. SHOCKING, I know.

Keeping reading to see what I picked up and my thoughts on the products.

It Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Pressed Powder
–Love the loose version of this, but it’s SO messy
–This powder if very finely milled and a great all over setting powder
–Good to use all over or just under the eyes
–Don’t know that it makes my pores go undetected or blurs them, but it does give an all over smooth appearance

Dose of Colors Eyedeal Duo in Shell
–I thought this was going to be more of a champagne shade, but it’s straight up rose gold
–The pigment is quite messy and VERY glittery
–I haven’t played with this too much, but I may end up returning it

Buxom Full On Lip Cream in Dolly
–I’m usually not a lip gloss fan, but my friend Zelle has raved about these so I decided to grab one while they were half off.
–She recommended Dolly and it is the most perfect neutral shade for every day
–I was super hesitant because it claims to be plumping, but the tingle is minimal and I don’t mind it.
–I wish I had bought more shades while they were $10

Becca First Light Priming Filter
–I got a sample of this as a 100 point perk and I really liked how it made my skin feel.
–It’s a lightweight, hydrating primer that works well for my dry skin.
–I wouldn’t have purchased it if it hadn’t been on sale though. I don’t love it $38 worth, but for $19, I’m in.

MAC Fix+
–This product is just an every day staple for me.
–I ALWAYS have a back up of this. I keep one bottle on my vanity to use and another in my drawer for when I run out.
–It was a no brainer to pick this up while it was half off.

Did you pick up anything during the sale?

–$6 for 0.8 oz at Target, Ulta, elfcosmetics.com, & Wal Mart

Shade Range
–11 (my shade: Light Ivory)

–Packaging, pump!
–Cruelty free
–Oil free
–Shade match for me
–Buildable coverage
–Holds up well, lang lasting

–Not all shades available at all retailers

Final Verdict
–I like this foundation and you definitely can’t beat the price. It’s good but not life changing. I’m just kind of meh on this one.

5 Products I Can’t Do My Makeup Without

  1. RCMA No Color Powder
    • Best all over powder for dry skin
    • Sometimes I use a different powder for my undereye area, but in a pinch, this works for all over setting.
    • The packaging sucks so I bought these jars off Amazon and repackaged it myself.
  2. Beauty Sponge
    • The one pictured is from Sonia Kashuk, but I have several favorites (post coming soon!)
    • I used to hate sponges and only stick to brushes, but that is no longer the case.
    • I use my sponge for foundation, concealer, powder, and all over blending. This one tool takes the place of several brushes. I’m all for efficiency.
  3. Maybelline Brow Precise Volumizer
    • I can use this alone or with my pencil and clear brow gel depending on time and my level of laziness.
  4. Mark & Graham Compact Mirror
    • My BFF gave me this for Christmas and I had in my purse for the longest time, but I took it out and put it on my vanity and I’ve gotten so much more use out of it.
    • It has a regular size and a super magnified side which is great since I am blind as a bat. I can super up close to do my eye makeup and makeup sure everything is blended and in place.
  5. Tarte Shape Tape Concealer in Fair
    • There’s a reason this product has such a cult following, it’s really that good.
    • I use it to conceal my dark circles and spot conceal on my face.
